World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

The upgrade of an item can be used to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it can boost an item's Rarity or Mark Level, and also boost other stats.

The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats improve in value. This is the sum of all of its leveled up benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the fact that many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.

The level of an item is a commonly used measurement of power and can be seen on all item tooltips. It is also used as a gating requirement while waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is capped at the lower levels). The average item level can be found in the character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear players can look at the levels of the item. It's an indicator of the item's damage and its quality. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor can be done by using the level of the item.

The level of the item can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the full item description, including its level. It is also accessible by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories about how the calculation of an item's level is made. One theory states that the item level is determined by an equation that determines how valuable an item's stats actually are. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different values and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item overall. This can result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is typically close to the actual Blizzard item level.

However, this isn't the only factor which affects an item's ilvl, as the size of the area the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, such as by adding an additional level to its haste or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

Item stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The stat mods of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by the player's level.

The upgrades to items add by boosting certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. For instance, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare levels will be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.

Affixes are another way to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can provide the item extra damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing cooldowns), or make the item unique by giving an exclusive name to the item.

At present, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circling arrows. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other rerolling options.

In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can also choose which stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are determined by the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within the specified range, unless it is a unique item or an item that is a God roll from a boss of a raid.

Another thing that could change is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll attaches, or select which stats to increase. Like base equipment, it must be done per item, and the interface for item comparison will not show all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the chances of finding items as well as the properties that appear on loot drops and the strength of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to  upgrade item s. It gives players an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is more useful in early game runs because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading which increases with each level and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, shields, and armor can be created or spawned with the Luck property, which has the default value of 40. These items can be improved with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on their material type) to increase the value of 40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that is able to deal damage by five percent. These items can be purchased in the shop or created by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to increase their success rate or prevent themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to how much the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%.

The success of an item upgrades is also influenced by the Luck of that item. Each item has an average success rate of 25 percent and each item that has Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects may be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
